THE UNION OF FUNERAL COMPANIES
IN BULGARIA CELEBRATES
30 YEARS ANNIVERSARY
By Atanas Argirov, President of the UFCB, Bulgaria
he Union of Funeral Companies in Bulgaria
(UFCB) was established on February 11,
1993 in the city of Kazanlak at the foot of Mount
Buzludzha. It was no accident that the founders
of the union chose this very geographical place
in our homeland to start an organization uniting
and protecting the interests of all Bulgarian
funeral
entrepreneurs.
They
invested
their
money in the most unattractive but respectable
activity. In this valley, thousands of years ago, the
Thracians immortalized their rulers by choosing
the best place to lay their mortal remains before
passing into eternity. Thracians turned this valley
into a burial ground for their elders and built
their cult temples to the sun, water, beauty and
eternity. They believed that a dignified parting
with earthly life was important and their duty to
make it happen.
The union was established as a natural and
voluntary association of private entrepreneurs in
the funeral business, with the aim of protecting
the interests of its members, eliminating the
monopoly of the state and municipalities. The
UFCB strives to support the solution of specific
issues in the funeral industry, both in general and
for each of its members individually.
The goals of the union today are:
• Confirmation of the Union as a leading branch
organization in the funeral business.
• Affirming equality between private and
municipal funeral companies.
• Protection of the rights and interests of the
members of the union.
• Protection of the interests of users of
bereavement services.
• Professional training of personnel for funeral
activities.
